A FB friend has realized she’s leaking energy left and right left because she’s got so many projects started, and running, but never quite coming to completion. While I’m bemoaning a (three-year-old) unfinished website and the monumental task of finishing the sales pages.
Willpower is not going to cut through the habit she’s developed of starting and not finishing, or the guilt that I’ve built up in taking so long to finish my own task.
What we need is a way to keep the intention of finishing, front and center, but it’s got to be a gentle, guilt-free reminder at the same time.
We need a ritual!
They are already started so they’re more than ideas. They have concreteness to them. And each and every one is well-loved and has the potential to eventually be something big and wonderful.
Are they acorns?
No. Acorns take too long to come into fullness. These projects want quicker movement and more momentum.
So what starts small, needs protection and support, but grows quickly before moving out into the world?
Baby birds! They start out as little eggs in a protective nest with the full and dedicated intention of flying out into the world as self-sufficient, self-sustaining birds. This! This is what we want for our projects! Obviously our projects aren’t real birds (thank goodness! Imagine the mess!) No - what we need to do is work with symbols, crafting a personalized version of eggs and a nest. Using those symbols will allow us a supported, guilt-free reminder of all we want to accomplish. |
A basket
“Grass” (Easter basket grass, ripped paper etc.)
Paints (optional)
Give them a good washing.
Paint them. This step is optional but I will tell you this: the more you put into your “eggs,” the more you interact with them, the more invested you are in them, the more potent a symbol you create. The more powerful a symbol you create the more likely you are to engage with it and have the outcome you desire.
Find a basket that looks nest-like and add “grass” to it. (Left-over Easter grass, shredded paper, ripped and crumpled newspaper – use as much ingenuity in building your nest as a Momma Bird.) Infuse it with safety and protection. Make it a sanctuary.
Note: Another option is to go to your local craft shop and purchase a pre-made nest and some realistic looking eggs. Some folks prefer crafts and others prefer stuff just so. If you’re the later then the beauty you’d find in your preference would be enough to engage you.
Put your nest somewhere safe, somewhere you’ll look on it regularly. Maybe your desk or your altar.
Add your eggs. Remember what they stand for. Let them support you, and reinforce your intention of completing (hatching) your projects and letting them take wing as completed versions of themselves out in the world.
As you finish each project (as it hatches and flies off) remove the “egg” from the basket. If you painted the rocks (and even if you didn’t) you can take them out in the world and drop them in random places. How much happiness would that spread when others find this odd, beautiful (energetically charged) little treasure. It also reinforces the idea that they are destined to go out into the world.
