Using Ritual to Rewrite Your Novel (weeks 5 & 6: when very little gets done)

The following are a series of Facebook posts detailing the process and journey of rewriting my Beloved Story.

Sick days, self-care, and what counts in staying connected to your project.  All of these came up over the last two weeks.

We do what we can, right?  We hold onto the thread as best we can.  Sometimes it slides through our fingers and we just barely keep a hold.

And it's okay.

It has to be okay, because it is what it is, and no amount of fighting against that is ever going to change it. So, I practice going with it.  Some call it Acceptance.  Some call it Surrender.  Call it what you will, just practice....

I had a horrible case of laryngitis during "weekend" 5.

I don't like not being able to talk but I made the best of it.  I spent the day on Thursday exploring living with "No words" and what that means.  No words from me.  No words from books,  No words from my stories on the TV.
I am glad after that experience that it is not the will of the Universe that "I speak no more; that my voice be still" as Leonard Cohen wrote.  I offer you the song in its fullness and beauty, as sung by the Webb sisters.

Theresa Ramirez, I Slay My Own Dragons
Sick days mean catch-up at work, even when you run your own business.  So "weekend" 6 was dedicated to my precious La Padre.

But I DID connect with two writers! Because part of developing a Writerly Self is connecting with other writers!

First up was Theresa who launched a brilliant and bold new website on November 1st!  I'm a sucker for retellings (um, hello...Maggie's story is a retelling of the Christ tale after all!) and Theresa is doing it with cleverness and a desire to empower women and girls.  Read her stuff: start with Red Riding Hood - so apropos for this time of year!
Camino Stamp Jennifer Hofmann
And then I got to talk to Jen about process, and publishing, and sticking with it!  You can read about Jen's pilgrimage journey on the Camino over at her bog to tide you over until she's done working on her book, detailing the experience.

Personally, I can't wait.  But I must.

Because, as I said when I started this post, it is what it is, and no amount of fighting against that is ever going to change it.  So, I'm practicing.

And next week is a new week.  The Universe is already sending me messages to keep the faith and, as Sheila says each week in The Round TUIT Writing Circle (now defunct) "Just keep starting."

Thanks for mentioning what I'm up to, Deb! Some days it *feels* like a "bog" over at my blog! :)

Thanks for the reminder to keep being with the process rather than resisting it. That's what gets us where we're going with oh so much less drama. Forward!
